Concept to Reality

From: SRA forums

Someone posted this photo on the Shadow Riders forums the other day. My first thought was 'eek that looks uncomfortable!'. Then someone posted up some links that he found to this bike online here and here. So I looked at them and thought, OK this is a bit more interesting. I Googled it to see what else I could find, the articles didn't really tell you that much about it, just enough to make me want to learn more. I found a youtube that he had made here. Well that told me more.

I thought it was facinating that this bloke had found something that was just a concept then wanted to live the dream so much that he spent a lot of time putting it all together. He overcame a few hurdles and now rides his dream to work. How amazing is that?!?! While I dont really like the bike itself, it still looks uncomfortable to me (it has it's good points, there's plenty of shiny stuff). The idea that this man had his dream and made it come true is the real reason that I love this bike.

What do you think of the bike? Have you ever made a dream come true?

Edit: Oh and I just found a Youtube of him actually riding the bike, it's just him taking off from a driveway but gives you a better idea of how you sit on it and how it moves .... See it here

  1. From the crafts perspective it is an extraordinary piece of art. For the purpose of long distance traveling... I cannot see that work. It is not ugly, actually it looks quite elegant. I think the whole point of customizing is that is pleases the owner/builder.

    1. It is artistic isn't it Sonja, and one of the things about art is that often the best things are the things you either love or hate. I agree that the point of customising is what pleases the owner and that's what makes them so special.

  2. Not my cup tea, but whatever turns ones crank. It looks fairly chunky to me and I am not sure how agile it would be, seems a little low and I'd be afraid to bottom it out. There s an artfulness to it.

    1. Yeah it does look a bit chunky, and definately not for shorties like me. Have a look at the new video I just found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBb0Yq24HHg you can see how odd it looks when someone is sitting on it, kinda a cross between a cruiser and a sports look. But I think it actually does handle very well acording to what he says about it.

  3. What about an aircraft engine stuck into a motorbike frame?

My thoughts are that he should put the propeller back on to give it better air cooling. Now, aren't you meant to stand back from propellers?

  4. WOW. I think that the look he was after is the 'it looks like its been crashed already' look. Yep not for me, maybe after a few more beers it'll look better.

  5. Very interesting. I think it is cool that he designed it and saw it through to build it and ride it.

While I don't think it would be that fun to ride (it seems with the raked front end the turning radius would be wide) the concept (transformers in disguise?) look to it is different.

One man's dream is another man's nightmare.......

    1. That's the cool bit here eh Brandy.

Yeah a couple of the articles says it's transformers inspired, tho he doesn't mention it in his video, it certainly looks like it.
